Youth Improvers Sailing Camp

The Improver Camp builds on learning in the beginners camp, with the sailors aiming for their RYA stage 3 and State Racing of the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. These camps are an excellent opportunity to get out on the water and get a lot of sailing in.

The Improver Camp builds on learning in the beginners camp, with the sailors aiming for their RYA stage 3 and State Racing of the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. These camps are an excellent opportunity to get out on the water and get a lot of sailing in.

Course Content

Aiming to complete the RYA Stage 3 and RYA Start Racing courses.

  • Stage 3: Improved rigging, sailing theory, launching and recovery. Building confidence in a range of sailing techniques on all points of sail and capsize recovery
  • Start Racing: All the skills required to start club racing, including basic start sequences and timing; improved tacking and gybing, using the 5 essentials to best effect and having a basic understanding of the racing rules

Instructor to Student ratio

1 Instructor to 6 Students

Minimum Age

8 years old

Prerequisites

RYA Stage 2 certificate

What you need to bring

  • RYA Logbook
  • Towel
  • Lunch
  • Wetsuit boots/ old shoes

Consider bringing

  • Wetsuit
  • Sunglasses, Sun hat, Sunscreen, Water bottle
  • Warm hat, Extra layers

The Weekend is open to sailors from all clubs. - Take part in the full two-day programme, or drop in for a single day of top-quality coaching. If sailor needs to use one of our Clubs Optimists for a weekend, this can be arranged - please contact the club in advance. There will be a charge of £10 per day.
